In Fall 2024, we sent seven teams, along with a hybrid team consisting of one CSUF student partnered with a student from the University of Chicago, to regional tournaments. They competed in four different tournaments against over 500 teams from more than 100 universities.

Great Lakes Regional at Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan

Ayanna Grunwald (POSC & AMST '26, Honors College) and Mazi Mustafa (PSYCH '27, President's Scholar, Honors College) WON the Great Lakes Regional at Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan and were undefeated in the tournament! Mazi earned 10th place speaker. 
 

Capital Classic Regional at the Capital Law School in Columbus Ohio

Aliana Acosta (POSC '25) and Jane Paden (POSC & ENGL '25) placed second while Luke Dao (POSC, PHIL, SOC, CRJU '25) and Danielle Miranda (POSC '26) advanced to the semi-finals placing right behind them.

Luke won 1st place speaker.

Danielle won 3rd place speaker and Jane earned 10th. 
 

Eastern Regional, Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg, MA

Juan Salguero (POSC '26 Honors College) and Valentina Perez (POSC '25) were our top ballot earners at this tournament of 48 teams, advancing to the quarterfinals along with Brandon Gutierrez (POSC/CRJU '25, Honors College) and Meghann Domond (POSC '26 Honors College, Presidents Scholar).
Alexa King (POSC & AFAM '24) and Leah Allari (POSC '26) were knocked out of competition by our own team of Salguero/Perez .
Colson Houck Teal (POSC '26) and Ashlie Dale (POSC 25) advanced to the elimination rounds as well.
Valentina earned 5th place speaker while her partner Juan was close behind her for 6th place.

At the Northeastern Regional at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA 

Victoria Canonizado (SOC & CRJU '25) partnered with a student from University of Chicago facing very tough competition. She brought home a gavel for 5th place speaker.

Dr. Fiber and the 2025 team

The top 25% of teams earned bids to Preliminary National Tournaments (PRONT), where 32 teams competed. Based on their regional placements, six of our seven teams were invited to two PRONTs!

University of Houston Law Center, Houston, TX

Jane Paden and Aliana Acosta advanced to semi-finals, while Ayanna Grunwald and Mazi Mustafa advanced to quarterfinals after having to face Luke Dao and Danielle Miranda (tears were shed for sure) in the octo-finals, winning that round to move on. Earning gavels for speaker awards: Luke earned his second gavel of the season as 12th as did Mazi earning 8th place, Ayanna earned 3rd Speaker.

J. David Rosenberg College of Law - University of Kentucky/Berea College, Lexington, KY

Colson Houck Teal and Meghann Domond were our top team at that tournament advancing to quarterfinals, Juan Salguero & Valentina Perez advanced to elimination rounds and narrowly lost that round. Leah Allari and Victoria Canonizado had a strong showing in preliminary rounds. Valentina won 6th place speaker bringing home yet another gavel

 

From 4 different PRONTs the top 25% of teams earned bids to the final round of the national tournament where the top 32 teams competed for the national championship.

 

At the FINAL round of the National Tournament at Texas Tech University School of Law, Lubbock, Texas:

Colson Houck Teal and Meghann Domond made it to the octo-finals after having to face Ayanna Grunwald and Mazi Mustafa in the first elimination round (many tears were shed). Aliana Acosta and Jane Paden also competed fiercely in the tournament. Meghann Domond earned a gavel for the 5th place speaker IN THE NATION.


Luke Dao and Danielle Miranda earned 9th place in the national brief writing tournament.
